Meet the Artist

 

M.A. Papanek-Miller

 

M.A. Papanek-Miller is an artist who creates layered mixed media/drawing related art works informed by our human relationships with animals, plants, water access and use which are seasoned with a bit of humor and worry. M.A. draws from collected toys and related objects believing in the imbued spirt and inwardness of things and that in every object there is a story.


M.A. was awarded an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, received an Individual Artist Grant from the Seattle Arts Commission, and exhibits with Jean Albano Gallery. M.A. is creating drawings that suggest care for animals produced by Me O My Earth for children’s apparel and completed a series of drawings from historically acquired objects for a young adult novel in-progress titled Making Way: Sailing Into A Revolutionary Storm. M.A has an MFA in Art, is a Professor and the Director of The Art School at DePaul University and served in similar positions at The University of Montana, Bemidji State University, and at Cornish College of the Arts. M.A. lives and works in the Northwoods Lake Country of Minnesota and in Chicago near Lake Michigan.
